WHERE TO OBTAIN A PRE-EMPLOYMENT MEDICAL EXAM (PEME) FOR CREW MEMBERS IN SPANISH PRIVATE CLINICS
A Pre-employment medical exam consists on blood and urine tests, chest or thoracic x-rays and a full physical exam by a General Practitioner. However, depending on the doctor`s opinion while he is checking the patient, different tests can be performed in order issue a good health certificate.
In Spain, only private Clinics and Hospitals carry on these medical exams and not all of them do it. The prices and the time they take to perform the exams and to issue a Report are also different in every Clinic/Hospital and province of Spain.
Here are three private Clinics in Barcelona, Valencia and Alicante where these Certificates can be obtained:
Barcelona / Teknon Medical Center
The total cost is 420, 00 euros. The results are sent in English within some three to four (3-4) days, they are sent first by e-mail and the original by registered letter. For food-handlers, or crewmembers that manipulate food (waiter, chef, etc.) there is an extra test of parasites in stool with an extra cost of 20, 00 euros.
The day of the appointment, you must be fasting and not have drunk alcohol in the previous 48 hours. In order to prove the chickenpox vaccination as well as MMR (measles, mumps and rubella), you must bring a card with the confirmation of these vaccines. Otherwise, it can be determined by a blood test with an extra cost of 130, 00 euros.
Re-employment medical exam consists on blood and urine tests and physical exam by a GP. The total cost is 380, 00 euros.
ALICANTE / Hospital Vithas Medimar Internacional
 They do not carry out PEME, however they can provide the following alternatives:
1. A complete checkup which is 665, 00 euros (cardiologist, ORL, oftalmologist, gynaecologist, blood test, urine test, stool occult blood test, Thorax XRay, etc.). Everything is done in one (1) day and the results ready in four to five (4-5) days.
2. Appointment with a GP (100, 00 -120, 00 euros) who will prescribe you the tests you need. Until the doctor doesn’t see the patient it is difficult to say an exact price, however for orientation:
 -Thorax X-ray – 40, 00 euros
 – Blood test – 200, 00 euros
 – Urine test – 30, 00 euros
 – Stool occult blood test – 20, 00 euros
The Report would be issued in Spanish language.
VALENCIA / Hospital Vithas 9 d’Octubre
They can provide a PEME with a cost of in between 1.300, 00 / 1.500, 00 euros and the exams take one week.
They do a complete checkup which includes an effort test, thoracic X-rays, urine text, an electrocardiogram, an ultrasound scan, an ear test and a complete blood test. Once the doctor has the results, he will program the extra test he considers necessary.
